EWEN — David Radovich was hired as the new superintendent at Wednesday’s Ewen-Trout Creek (E-TC) School Board meeting.
Radovich replaces Alan Tulppo, who took a position with the Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District.
Tulppo had been the district’s superintendent and principal. The E-TC board decided to separate the two positions. Radovich’s position will be part-time. Patricia Witt was hired as the full-time principal.
Brandon Ward was hired as the new athletic director, taking over for Shaun Brown.
On the subject of athletics, the southern Ontonagon School District will field a junior varsity and varsity cross country team. The new teams will be “club” sports.
“This is similar to the golf and bowling teams and will be at no expense to the district,” said E-TC School Board President Kirk Schott.
The board agreed to the winter tax levy collection, which will have no change in the total millage, according to Schott.
Karla Parrot gave a presentation to the board on “Pathways to Potential.”
“The year-end review addressed the program that we have had for a few years to address chronic absenteeism and tardiness,” Schott said. “The program is doing well, with reduced rates of both categories compared to what we had two-three years ago.”
The E-TC School District will once again be a Michigan School of Choice, as that resolution was passed.
“So, we will again accept out-of-district students to attend ETC,” said Schott.
E-TC has over 30 students from outside the district attend the school. The school has a bus that goes to Northern Ontonagon County to transport students to and from school.
An issue that has been a topic at previous board meetings is combined elementary grade classes in the same classroom. The board agreed to not have a combined elementary classroom this school year.
“We will have a multiple classrooms and multiple teachers,” said Schott. “With the new teachers and administrators, and their qualifications, we will not have a combined elementary classroom.”
